Cyprus leaders meet in new reunification push

NICOSIA (Reuters) - Leaders of Cyprus's Greek and Turkish communities met on Friday in a new effort to reunite the divided island, a hurdle to Turkey's bid to join the European Union.

Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias and TurkishCypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat began talks at a sitecontrolled by the United Nations, lying between the two sectorsof the divided capital, Nicosia. It was their first encountersince Christofias, who wants to solve the problem, defeated hishardline predecessor in Cypriot presidential elections lastmonth.
