GM sales report, financials lift Wall St.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday, the first session of the second half of 2008, as a reassuring monthly sales report from General Motors

Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> rose 32.25 points, or 0.28 percent, to end unofficially at 11,382.26. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> gained 4.91 points, or 0.38 percent, to close unofficially at 1,284.91. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> jumped 11.99 points, or 0.52 percent, to end unofficially at 2,304.97.
